Channel profile
The few lines about your channel that every tool reads. Write them once and topics, scripts, thumbnails and news all follow.
Find it under Settings, in the Channel section, or in the welcome flow.
| Field | What to write | Example |
|---|---|---|
| About | Two or three sentences on what the channel is. | Honest takes on the African startup scene, for founders. |
| Channel name | The name viewers know. | Founder Notes |
| Niche | The subject, in a few words. | Startups in Africa |
| Audience | Who watches. | First time founders and early employees |
| Tone | How you sound. | Direct, dry humour, no hype |
| Language | The language your videos are in. | English |
| Kinds of videos you make | Optional. Your series or the kinds of videos you keep coming back to, up to six. Every topic is one of them and is labelled with its name. Leave it empty and the finder learns them from your reference channels; the kinds it spotted show under the field, and a tap keeps one. News is only suggested when one of your kinds is news. | Out of context screenshots, Wrong number texts |
| YouTube category | One of the 15 YouTube categories. Every upload from the channel lands in it. Defaults to People & Blogs. | Gaming |
When you leave it empty
The topic finder needs one of two things before it can run: a few words on what your channel is about, or at least one reference channel. With either, it reads your channel and works out what your videos are made of and where to look for material. A screenshot comedy channel gets subreddits full of screenshots; a cooking channel gets cooking communities and food news.
Channels that were set up before 15 October 2026 with an empty profile keep the technology preset they started with, until you fill in what the channel is about.
Reference channels
Add the channels you admire. The writer studies the latest uploads of each one to learn pacing and structure. Turn on Race for a channel when you want the daily topic run to find stories it has not covered yet.
Where ideas come from
Open Channels on the Topics page to see what the finder thinks your channel is and the sources it reads. It reads your channel again by itself when you change the profile or your reference channels. Read my channel again does it on demand.
To choose the sources yourself, go to Settings, Topics:
- Feeds takes up to 20 RSS or Atom URLs.
- Subreddits takes up to 10 names, without the
r/.
Anything you enter there replaces the sources the finder chose.
Who can change it
